Colonel Simpson, Inspector General of Prisons in Bengal during a raid on the Government Secretariat, cabled on Bth. December. Fierce rioting occurred at Bewal. a Hindu Sikh village as a result of aMoslem sohcbl teacher cooking cow flesh, which is sacred to Hindus. A. Moslem who was beaten by Hindus informed Moslems in adjoining villages, who besieged Bewal. looted and burnt fifteen shops, defiled a Hindu temple by flinging cow flesh into itand burnt alive a Sikh watchman. The casualties are unknown.
