“Britain is not only devouring its resources but is rotting the character o| its people.” “The worst fact is that money is getting into the public purse” Such were the declarations of Sir Robert Horne and Sir Ernest Benn respectively at a great demonstration at Cannon Street Hotel with an overflow meeting to re-emphasise the urgent national need of public economy. Lord Grey of Fallodon supported the other speakers resulting in the inauguration of a campaign which an influential organisation called “Friends of Economy will stimulate countrywide.
It was resolved that national, local, and personal economy was essential to the recovery of prosperity; that the Government cease all not absolutely necessary expenditure; that citizens in other towns hold similar meetings.
