ANCIENT REMAINS
THOSE OF KING EDWARD 'THE MARTYR. (United Press Association—By Electric telegraph—Copyright* (Received this day at 3 a.m.) LONDON, .January 20. 'The remains of the Saxon, King Edward, the Martyr, wlu> was murdered at Carle Castle by his stepmother, Klirida in 978, has been found m Shaftesbury Abbey. Au empty tomb was found in 1801, but the records showed the coffin of the .Martyr had been removed to a secret place, about the time of the dissolution of Monastaries, by the Abbess and Nuns of the Abbey. The resting place was not traced until the owner uncovering a wait on the site of the Abbey found a lead casket, 24 by 9 inches, containing bones, manifestly secreted in great haste. Everything suggests that they are the remains of one of the most famous of English royal martyrs.
