NOTED BATTLESHIP

Rear-Admiral Clyde has transferred liis flag to the “Marlborough” from the battleship ‘‘Emperor of India,” which is now being prepared for its obsequies in April, when it will be attacked by gunfire and will subsequently be scrapped. The battleship “Bonhmv” is also announced for sale, and is being broken up. Thus within a month of the Naval Treaty coming into force, the death knell is being sounded of two famous battleships, which fought at Jutland, and which, are still capable of many years’ hard service. .1 hey are the first fifty-thousand tons, out of 128 thousand tons, by which the British capital ships must be reduced by tho end of 1932. Moreover, the “Iron Duke,”- Lord J ellicue’s flagship, is being converted into a training ship. She is losing her turrets and most of her armour in accordance with the treaty.
