RAILWAY PROGRESS
SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK.

So easy is construction work on ttie northern end of the Soutli Island Main. Trunk railway, that there is every reason to believe that a New Zealand record for railway building will be established there. The formation work is now in varying stages of completion over a stretch of more than 30 miles, from the end of the completed line at Wharanui. It is anticipated that a 21 mile section Horn Wharanui to Clarence river will he finished, ready for the running of such commercial trains as are necessary, by September. At the present rate of progress, though there is some fairly heavy wor£ ahead, the South Main Trunk should., he open for traffic as a completed unit ■. of New Zealand railway spstem, within three years.
