There was a failure in the 'Lake Coleridge* power to North Otaffo on Frkliiy night. It was remedied- in the early hours of Saturday morning. The trouble was definitely traced' to a- failure of insulators near St. ! Andrews, which had resulted in the burning of a pole, consequent upon a short circuit. The power was cut off for two hours to-day to enable a new pole to be erected. Permanent repairs are now completed.
UNKNOWN MAN KILLED. HAMILTON, January 26. Tlip death occurred at Waikato Hosnital lust night, of an unknown'' man who was knocked down by. a motor ear on the Main South Roalj near. Huntley on Thursday evening, by a car driven by H. E. Barrett, Main Highway® Board traffic Inspector The man was severely injured and died without recovering consciousness. Byery effort to establish his identity has- been unsuccessful. /.
BURGLARS’ HAUL. DUNEDIN, January 25. Burglars made a rich haul when they entered the shop of Mr Herbert Wright ,trading under the style ot Dawson and Co., as a watchmaker and jeweller, in George Street on Satuiuay afternoon. The whole stock of diamonds and other stone rings, valued, at over £2OOO was taken from the shelves in the windows, an entry having been forced through the floor o'f the basement, and a whole cut in the floor of the workroom. Besides the rings, the only stock taken was four wristlet watches. A few shillings m the till were left untouched and only the most valuable articles were stolen.
SHIP’S WATCHMAN DROWNED. WELLINGTON, January 24. C. F. Robertson, ship’s keeper on the Kaitoke, last evening saw Charles. Nelson, watchman on the Putiki, arrive alongside the Putiki in his boat, but he did not see him climb over the rails, and the boat drifted away. A search aboard the Putiki failed to reveal him, and it,id presumed that ho fell into the water while boarding the Putiki, and was drowned. Both crafts were anchored in the stream.
