SouTC-tdnies they slEdo gracefully a little way off the- gold standard rather than lace the lull rigour of the readjustment,. This is what Australia has been doing and the effect of the diucount of the Australian pound, lias been to raise the cost of overseas products in Australia, to lessen the prices of Australian goods abroad and stimulate exports, but this relatively is a gentle, painless way of setting those forces in motion. CONY OC AITIO N STATEMENT. LONDON, January 22. The common idea among men that God was a sort of great spy, a Being trying to “do them in’’ is responsible for the indifference hostility towards religion throughout the world to-day. said the Bishop of London at the Upper House Convncauion. Also the idea of Christ dying to appease an angrv father, which has misrepresented the whole doctrine in atonement and caused disbelief or dislike for ianity. We have to remove such misunderstandings and in this respect the Lambeth Conference’s report on Christian doctrine of God is mostvaluable. because it gives the view that atonement is satisfying to the thinking man and minimised the difficulties aroused by the cruder doctrine.
