FATAL COLLISION
YOUTH DIES OF INJURIES
TIMARU, Jan. I
A fatal accident, taking place within sight of the victim’s father, occurred at Timaru at 2.45 yesterday afternoon, when Norman Herbert Carr, aged eighteen, a mechanic, of 131 River Road, Christchurch, received injuries resulting in his death. Carr was riding his motor-cycle in Edward street proceeding north when he collided with a ear driven by Pattrick Vincent Mangos, aged twenty, a farm worker of Ashburton, and son of Mr N. D. Mangos, of Craigie Avenue, who was proceeding south along King Street. The point of the collision is considered to be a dangerous/intersection. Carr’s father at the time was only 300 yards down the street. Carr was thrown heavily and sustained a fractured skull, severe facial abrasions, a broken wrist and minor injuries. He was atteuded by Dr B. Dunn and removed by ambulance to the hospital in an unconscious condition. He failed to recover consciousness and died at 3 a.m. to-day.
An inquest was opened at the hospital this morning before the Coroner, Mr C. 1L Ori'-Wulkef:
Deceased father, Alfred dairies Cltrr, who gave evidence of identification, stated that he was Stnue 300 yards away whet: the accident occurred.
Medical evidence as to deceased’s Injuries ivas also given, and the Inquest was adjourned till Monday morning at the Timaru Courthouse.
The deceased youth was well known in dirt track racing circles in Christchurch, having been a mechanic at the speedway there.
