Mr L. G. Richards a well-known Rhode Island poultry-breeder said that ganders give warning quicker than watch-dogs and they know how to break.a man’s legs with thefr wings. UNWANTED CATS. ROMAN SOCIETY’S EFFORTS. LONDON, December 20. How would Mr J. T. Lang’s new Landlord and Tenant Act apply in this ease ? asks the Rome correspondent of the “Times.” An eviction order, “owing to their archaefbgical incompatibility,” hanging over the heads of a tribe of more than 100 cats living in Trajans Forum has been delivered to the Roman Animal Lovers’ Society,, which has been ordered to remove them within a short period, ' ;■ A hope that they would have been motored to a healthy suburban resort, in which they Avould pass the remainder of their days on the dole at the public expense, proved illusory, owing to the economic crisis, and the society is faced with the unhappy dilemma either of themselves suppressing the cats by the most humanitarian methods or of allowing the city authorities to eliminate them, unless people are willing to afford them hospitality. The society offers transport of the cats to such persons as will provide maintenance for them And treatment when they are sick. Although notice to this effect appeared only this morning, 20 offers to receive cats have reached the society, which is deteimined to save the animals at all costs.
