BANK RETURNS
(Australian Press Association.) (Received this day at noon.) SYDNEY December 30. According to the December issue of the Australiasian Insurance Banking Record, the profits of Australian and New Zealand banks for the present year amounted to £5,908,000 sterling representing a drop of £451,107. Four of the Australian banks have a large part of their business in New Zealand and one New Zealand ban., has large commercial business in Australia. and after analysing the figures it is pointed out that the ratio of net profits on capital and reserves of £83,032,760 was 7.H per cent. This is the lowest since 1911. The amount distributed in dividend this year totalled £5,038,312 which represented 85.28 per cent. 1 of the net profits. Six of the twelve banks declared dividends at reduced rates up to the time of issuing their balance sheets.
