A decision to increase the minimum fat content for all cheese other than full cream to an extent that will effectually prevent the manufacture of cheese of inferior quality of body to .which strong exception Avas taken by British traders has been made by the GoA-ernment after discussions with the Dairy Produce Control- Board. A statement issued by the Minister for' Agriculture says that the Dairy Board, by a majority has advised that the existing minima be replaced by 52 per cent, to December 31st, 53 per fcent. from January Ist to and per cent, from March, 16th to the end of the season, end the Governmen hqs decided to adopt this advice. - ' V y It has also been decided that New Zealand ch.eeto for export shall be classified as. full cream, and cheddar respectively. Factories not making full cream cheese av’U still require special registration and in future Avill b° known as chuddar cheese factories. Tt is belieA’pd that the adoption of the changes set out and the rigid enforcement of the new regulations, including a close supervision of the ithimi factoring process. Avill result in re-es-tablishing the reputation of NeAv Zealand cheese on thm British market. In view of, the fact that cheese factory directorates have themselves voluntarily effected a marked improvement in quality this season by adopting better methods, the co-operation of all factories, concerned in ensuring the successful operation of the ucav regulations is confidently anticipated.
