COMMITTEE MEETING. The following were present at a meeting of the General Committee of the Club last evening, December Bth. : Messrs. W. E. ‘Williams (Prusident), H. Butland, J. J. Mclntosh (2), Sellers, McGregor, Yarrail, Newman, Parry, Houston, Peake and Evans. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From New Zealand Racing Conference notifying B. N. ibaridilands. of Feilding, would 6e Stipendiary Steward, -and R. G. Black of W'ellmgcou, Racecourse Inspector. —Received. From Internal Affairs Department, advising A.. G. Harper would be lotalisator Inspector at the forthcoming meeting. —Received. From Dr Hopkins accepting the position of Hon. Surgeon.—Received with thanks. From Mrs A. L. Dowell offering £8 for the ice cream and sweet stall rights for the season.— Received, and resolved to accept the offer for this year. The price obtained at auction last year was £6. From New Zealand Railways regretting a special train from Christchurch on the morning of Boxing Day could not bo granted, as there was already a daily service.— Received. From New Zealand Racing Conference notifying increased taxation to totalisator turnover. —Received. From same stating that any punishments decided on hv the Judicial Committee, must he inflicted by the Committee and not by the Stipendiary Steward, who may only • suggest* in such matters.—Received. From same issuing a warning that all accepting horses mv/st he paid for. -and no arrangement must he made to remit; the Stipendiary Steward to look into the matter.—Received. Tt was stated this was a decision of the Executive Committee of the Racing Conference. / From S. Godfrey resigning Club membership.—Received. From H.. Nurse pointing out the 8 stone minimum in certain races Harred .apprentices from* obtaining the allowance in those events, and suggesting the practice at Dunedin he adopted of reducing the minimum to 7st 131bs. —Received and to be eon sidered when framing future programmes. \ • GENERAL. The Secretary was directed to write to , the District Committee regarding the programme. The /Secretary and Mr Sellers reported in regard to the lonsevof tie ■racecourse from the -Racecourse Trustees. and correspondence wap explained*' from the Lands, Department;. The matter of adjusting the new lease to the amended law was left to Mr Sellers arid - ' the'Secretary to draft, and submit to. .the Department.
Tt was reported there mas a vacancy on the Racecourse Trustees, and that the Trutees had nominated Mr F McGregor to the position. . Mr H. T. Pari;v intimated tlie Parrvphone would be available for tlie forthcoming meeting. Tt bad been remodelled and improved of late, end would be found very effective. The offer was accepted with thankp. The Secretary reported the course and aonointments in crood order, end everything was in readiness for the meeting. The usual preparations would he in progress at the racecourse on the afternoon of Christmas Day. ; *
Tt was decided to sell the booths hv public auction at flip Prineeps Theatre at 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. The nominations were laid on the table and considered satisfactory. They total 238 as aeainst 172 for two days at Christmas in 1928, and 132 for on° day in 1929. Several new owners from distant parts had entered horses and the meetinsr promiised exceedingly well from a sporting point of view.
