GALE IN FIJI
GREAT DAMAGE DONE. (Australian Press Association) (Received this day at 11 n.m.) SUVA, November 25. A strong gale was experienced in the Fiji groups on Sunday afternoon and evening. Suva was undamaged. Ihe centre of the storm .seemingly was Ovalau Island, where many native villages were blown down. The Buretu mission was damaged. The report that two natives were killed and three injured is not confirmed. Some damage occurred at the Loretto mission also to the plantations and in Levuka. The Governent steamer “Derek” is ashore at Snrusavu and a cutter is ashore at Lotioni. The track of the .storm was S.S.E. The greatest force of the wind was seventy one miles and there was heavy rain. At Waidau, pineapple plantations and buildings were damaged. In Rewa district two motor launches, several can and other lighters were lost. The river is in flood and it is feared heavy damage is done to the native banana plantations as the river is full and is flooding the banana plants.
