STRUCK A REEF
MOTOR. SHIP'S PERILOUS POSITION.
PASSENGERS AND CREW SAFE.

The fourteen thousand tons motor ship “Highland Hope” struck a reel' near Farilhoes Island at four this morning in a dense fog. Over a hundred passengers embarked in six life boats in a pitiful plight, mostly half dressed, sonic only in their night clothes-.
Portuguese trawlers in respond to S.O.S. were quickly on the scene and took the boats safely to shore. Portion of the crew were also rescued similarly, the captain remaining aboard to assist in the salvage. Steamers are speeding to the assistance of the vessel.
The positibn of the “Highland Hope” is perilous. She is lying in dangerous rocks and ceased to reply to a wireless call at- 10 o’clock.
