GAOLS ELECTRIFIED

DELHI, November 19,
The Bengal Government just issued orders empowering the superintendents of gaols to electrify barbed wire fences and other enclosures around the gaols. It is believed this is intended to prevent the escape of prisoners from gaols, most of which are crowded. IRISH, SWEEPSTAKES. (Received this dav at 12 noon). LONDON, Nov. 19. In the Commons, Mr Viant said the pqst office had opened 9031 letters addressed to organisers of the recent Irish sweepstakes and returned them to senders approximately £6,960 sterling. Voices: “Shame.”
The “Daily Mail” says Irish hospitals ana receiving £131.724 sterling from the sweep. Promotion fees and expenses take £117,000.
