SAMOAN SHIPWRECK
NATIVES SAVE CREW. (Australian Press Association.) APIA, November 11. The nuxiliary schooner Rahra when lying off Pukapuka Island passage, at daylight on October 31st, waiting to load copra for a return trip to Apia was struck by sudden north-east squalls, smashing her against the reef. Her starboard side was staved in, and the vessel was thrown up on to the reef, becoming a total wreck. Her crew of thirteen were all recused after strenuous efforts by nfttives in canoes. Captain Delmer, aged 65, the engineer, Mr George Mann, and two natives of the crew, left Pukapuka in a nineteen feet open ship’s boat, carrying a small sail. They arrived at ( Apia at nine o’clock this morning In an exhausted condition, after a hazardous trip. They were drenched with water and spray the whole time.
