The naval shipbuilding establishment of Messrs William Beard more and Company, Limited, H at < Dalmuir, on tlie Clyde, will cease to- exist shortly, its yard having been purchased:-by National Shipbuilders’ Security, Limited.' ■ ■ . , i

As the main abject of the company is the purchase of redundant shipyards, Ijhe dismantling and disposal of their contents, and the re-sale of the sites under oefitriqtions against further use for- shipbuilding - this purchase of the shipyard at Dalmuir means the end of . shipbuilding there, although work in the other branches of Messrs Beardmore at Dalmuir—the marine and general engineering works —will continue. But no more ships can be laid down on .the berths. The Dalmuir shipyard, which will complete the Ismail amount of- work now on hand, is expected to be closed by the. end of' this year. ' ' • In the first nine years of its. existence, -'Messrs- Beardmore built, at Govafi and Dalmuir, many • faraoup cruisers, . notably the .Berwick, Carnarvon, Gloucester. Falmouth. and. Dublin, and the battleships Agamemnon, Conqueror and Beuibaw. During the war Messrs Beardmore built sev-enty-three naval; vessels, including! the battleship RamiHies and, the waplano carrier. Argus,; while ■ twenty large warships were refitted. | In the period before the. war mnfey well-known liners were. built- at Dalmuir.
