A long and fierce fight . 'between a giant) killer shark and a 90-foot whale off the New Plymouth foreshore on Wednesday week attracted the attention of crowds of people. The fight commenced at 2.30 p.m., and at 5.30 p.m. the two huge fish moved out to sea, still fighting. The whale wa® first seen on Tuesday morning. It was in among the rocks and was rolling over and over. Throughout the day it remained among the rocks, blowing frequently. On Wednesday afternoon it was still disporting itself about 600 yards out at sea, when it was attacked (by tine killer shark. Again and again the shark leaped high out of the water and dived on to the unfortunate whale. The .water was churned to foam with the fury of the struggle. As. the shark, to .attack the white beneath its body was plainly, visible. . The strokes of the whale’s massive tail lashed the water. As the shark plunged on to the whale the two would disappear under the water, sometimes remaining there for as-long an 10 minutes. For three hours the desperate struggle continued' with unabated Gradually the 'combatants moved out to sea, still' fighting.
