MOTORIST’S LUCKY ESCAPE. lelegraph—Per Press Association.) AVANGANUI, Oct. 2G. Leaving the road at the corner of Marangai Hill, nine miles from Wanganui, this ■morning, a car turned over twice, and the wife of the driver, A. Peliow, of Palmerston North, received scalp wounds, which necessitated twenty-seven stitches. The husband suffered from shock, and two others in the ear were uninjured.
CAR RUNS INTO SHOP. WANGANUI, October 26. In swerving to avoid two young men on a motor-cycle at Gonville this evening, u car driven by the Mayor, Mr AV. J. Rogers, just missed a telegraph pole, and crashed into a shop. Mr.s Rogers sustained a cut on the temple which had to he stitched. The Mayor and his three children escaped ini hitman FATALLY INJURED. AVELLINGTON, October 25. " A midtlle-aged man, named either O’Boyen or O’Brien, who is believed to have lived in Cuba street, was knocked down and fatally injured by a motor-lorry near the tramway shelter at Lambton station last night. He died in hospital early this morning.
ACCIDENTALLY SHOT

George Gilbert Truman, 15 years, accidentally shot himself through the left lung when out shooting at Matamata his afternoon. He is not rpected to live.
STRUCK BY TRAMCAR, AUCKLAND, October 26. The woman who was struck by a tramcar in Queen Street on Thursday n'ght, Mrs Eliza’ etli Jane Martin aged 63, years died in hospital last night. Mrs Martin was knocked down heavily, and she received severe head injuries and was rendered unconscious. HUSBAND SHOOTS AVIFE. AVELLINGTON, October 25. A demonstration qf how to use a rifle awd the subsequent accidental discharge of the gun was nearly attended with serious consequences this morning, when Mrs Vera Cunningham, of 35 Bridge street, Lower Hqtt, received a bullet wound in her 'face.
Mrs Cunningham’s husband, it is stated, was showing his wife how the rifle which was sawn off, might be used s a revolver. He was quite unaware that a cartridge was in the barrel, and found to his dismay, when the gun went off, that Mrs Cunningham had been struck.
The bullet entered Mrs Cunningham’s face on the left -side of her nose, and buried itself in her right cheek. She was admitted to the hospital, an<l is progressing satisfactorily.
EARTHQUAKE SHOCK
WELLINGTON, October 25. A fairly big earthquake was recorded at Kel burn this morning. Tts origin is probably in the East Indies. BOY’S TRAGIC DEATH. AUCKLAND, October 26. After falling from a stringer below the vehicular ferry wharf at Devonport, a hoy aged ten years, Henry James Chandler, whose parents live at Devonport, was carried down the harbour by the tide, and was Browned. His plight was noticed, and strenuous efforts were made to save him, but when he was brought to the shore about 20 minutes later he was d BODY AMONG ROCKS. DUNEDIN, Oct. 26. Joint*; Rilev, a bricklayer, aged 59. whose home was in Dunedin, and who was married, with no family, was found dead among the rocks on the second deaeh at St. Clair this morning. Riley had been in the water, but it is not yet known how lie met bis death.
