SYDNEY TO MELBOURNE RACE. (Australian Picas Association, j MELBOURNE, Oct. 26. The seven hundred miles cycle road race, Sydney to Melbourne resulted: Joseph Mauclair (France) ... 1 Hubert Opperman (Australia) 2 Jean Bidot (France) 3 Won by 9) minutes. The winner’s riding time for the whole journey was 44hrs. 56mins. 20secs.

The last stage was from Shepparton, 18Q miles. The start was delayed owing to adjustments being made to Mauclair's machine. Some competitors complained of favourism being shown to the Frenchman, but the referee pointed out, that others had received similar consideration. The weather was fine and conditions good. Some found the road trying in their tired state, and a strong head wind in the later stages slowed down the pace. Opperman won the final stage from Thomas a.nd Bidot. The twelfth circular road race around Mount Egniont, held to-day, was won by R. D. Sole (New Plymouth) off the 25niin. mark. The winner heat D. J. Beer (New Plymouth) by four lengths. Fastest time was gained by H. G. Watson (Christchurch), who also won the North Island road championship. , Over the first and last stages of the race the riders had to battle against very heavy winds and rain, and the race pi'oved a great test of endurance.
