STOCKTON MINE.

WESTPORT, October 23. In collection with the stoppage or work at the Stockton mine, the Company wish it to be understood that they are not endeavouring to increase the number of shifts, but are simply asking for a rearrangement in the hours of the two shifts worked at the mine between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., this being in the interests of economical working. Further, the Company consider that the Union committed a breach of agreement by being idle on Monday last for the demonstration.
