HAZLETT’S CASE

LEAVE TO APPEAL REFUSED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 10. Application w.oe made in the Court of Appeal in the ease of Ha-deft versus Buttimore. telegraphed on September 30th, for conditional leave to appeal to the Privy Council. Mr Buxton, in support of the application said the case involved the right and liberty of a subject and was of general importance, and leave should be granted. Mr C. G. White opposed the application and said the matter was not ot great and general importance. The Court refused to grant leave, the Chief Justice stating that by the time the case could reach the Privy Council, the order for Hazlett’s detention would have expired.
