A CRIPPLE ROBBED
KNOCKED DOWN IN STIU'JrIT. (By Telegraph—Per Press Afcniociation.l WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. Struck from behind and knocked over, a crippled- shopkeeper on his way home just before 11 o’clock on Saturday night -was the victim. o-f a daring robbery. Tile dimly lit arid almost deserted section of Abel Smith Street, between Culba and Taranaki ■Streets was the scene of the. assault and the robber escaped with about £SO in cash which had been contained in a small bag which the cripple was .carrying.
A mail' and his wife, sitting in a motor car sonic distance away, .saw the whole episode and the man went »o tlie cripple’s assistance. Throng"; attending to him, however, lie gave the thief an opportunity of a clean get away. After the robbery, the cripple said that he had been taking the money home in precisely the same way fo. twenty-two years. The victim of the assault received cuts on the head and forehead when he fell and struck the pavement.
