GISBORNE, September 17

An inquest was opened this afternoon on Joseph Arthur Parker a sixteen years old boy, who died under an anaesthetic at a private hospital. The hoy’s father gave evidence that on the previous evening his son was at home playing with his sister. Tile girl chased by her brother, ran along the hall, and as she ran she slammed the door behind her. In his attempt to stop- himself, the lad put his hand through the glass, severing some ligaments. He was removed to a private hospital where an operation was performed, but the lad passed away under the anaesthetic. The lad had enjoyed good health. The inquest was adjourned till September 25th.

John M’llroy, aged 61 years, an old resident at Hikurangi and an elder of. the Presbyterian Church, assisted in the communion service yesterday morning. Feeling unwell, he with his wife, left during the service anci motored home. He had just entered the door when he tfell dead.Member* of the family who had remained at church were summoned and the officiating minister, the Rev. A. Elliot, announced that the elder, who a few minutes earlier had helped to distribute the sacrament, had passed away Deceased had- suffered from heart trouble for many years. DEATH FROM INJURIES. WELLINGTON, Sept. lu. The death occurred at the hospital of Henry Case, of Hutt Road, Petone, who was knocked down by a motorcar on the Hutt Road, on the night of September 6. Deceased’s injuries consisted of a fracture of the pelvis and right leg.

DROWNING

CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 17

A child aged three, Erica Ambridge, was found drowned in a stream at the back of her home at Pnriri Street. Riccarton, this evening. The child was missed at 5.30 p.m., and after a search was found an hour later in the stream. A doctor was called and tried artificial respiration, hut in vain.
