WAIPAWA BYEELECTION
REFORM CANDIDATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WAIPUKUJIAU, Aug. 28. A large gathering of Reform supporters of the Waipawa Electorate this afternoon unanimously selected Mr William Tucker, a wool merchant, of Clive, as the Reform candidate to contest the Waipawa seat, rendered vacant by the death of Sir George Hunter. The candidate urns born at Clive in 1879. He is a fell-monger and wool merchant by trade. He lived for some years at Gisborne, and while there - was a. member of the Gisborne Borough Council and the Cook Hospital Board. He returned to Hawke’s Bay in 1923. He is at present a member of the Ilawkes Bay County Council for Clive Riding. He is a man of strong conservative principle. He is a fluent and able speaker. At the meeting, a branch of the ■Reform Political League was then set up with Mr Chns Patti.son as President and Messrs D. Ormond, H. R. Peacok, T. Percy and Wrn, H. Rathbone as vice-presidents, and also a strong committee to further the candidate’s interests.
