A FORCED LANDING
WELLINGTON ’PLANE CRASHES.
WELLINGTON, August 24
A Wellington pilot, Mr R. Berryman crashed his machine at Paekakariki this afternoon. Two of/ the club’s trained pilots Messrs C. M. Duthie and R. Berryman, went on a flight to Feilding yesterday morning. All went well upon the return journey, which was commenced at 1.45, until they reached Paekakariki, Here they met a strong southerly wind and ran Into' thick low clouds, which mnde .it impossible to return upon the course they had intended. (They decided that it would be necessary to go around Cnpe Terawhlti. Their benzine supply, however, was not sufficient for such a trip and so they agreed to land in a paddock and refuel. Duthie, who was flying a club Moth, landed successfully, but Blerryman in his own Arvo Avian made a couple of vain attempts to land in the field and finally overshot it, hit a fence and tipped up. Duthie, however, refuelled and came on to Wellington, arriving at 5.15 p.m.
