(By Telegraph—Press Association). PALMERSTON NORTH, Aug. 19. A case of Interest to Povyer Boards supply authorities, was heard in the Arbitration Court, when the Wellington electrical industrial union appealed against a contract passed by the local apprenticeship committee, authorising Manawatu-Oroua Power Board to apprentice a boy to the electrical trade. "The ground of appeal was a contract of apprenticeship with another employer, so that the youth obtain his wiremari’s license. For the Union it was contended that during his apprenticeship the youth would not receive the training in wiring which was necessary for him to secure a wireman’s license. The Union preferred • the youth to have three years wiring experience and then be transferred to the Power Board for theoretical training. Replying, ..to-Judge Frazer, Watters (the Power Board’s engineer) said the Board undertake to give lads a. training to enable them to be registered. The Court suggested that as a fair solution, the contract should be endorsed “It shall be the term of this contract, the employer shall during the term of apprenticeship provide the apprentice with such training and experience to satisfy the requirements of the Wiremen's Registration Board, in order to enable the apprentice to obtain registration.” This was argeed to.
