GISBORNE, Aug. 19

The Supreme Court opened this morning, Mr Justice Reed congratulating the district on the small amount of crime. True bills were returned in. the cases of John Lionel Baker charged with cattle stealing and Leslie Clyde Munro charged with unlawful carnal knowledge.

CARNAL KNOWLEDGE. GISBORNE, August 19.

The trial of Leslie Clyde Munro, 22, charged with carnal knowledge of a Maori girl aged fifteen, came to a sudden stop in the Supreme Court today when after some evidence of prosecution was heard, accused reversed his plea of not guilty to one of guilty. Mr. Justice Reed said he regarded the case as the most venial one he had ever come across. Arniseo had had sexual relations with the girl by the invitation of her parents. Accused was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution.

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 19. The Supreme Court criminal sessions have opened. Herbert Ormond Lawrence who admitted theft of £BO from Addington Post Office on July 30 was remanded till Friday for sentence. Judge Adams in his address to the Grand Jury said the postmistress was certainly most prompt and expeditious in her action and performance. She did a very smart piece of work.
