The Chairman of . the Australian Conference of Meat' Exporters,' William Angiiss, stated because of falling markets, high costs, embargos and tariffs, the Australian meat export industry was confronted with a most critical position. Every avenue must be explored and eVery effort made immediately to get down costs and secure modification of tariff.

Two miners at Grawin, near Walgett, report a rich find of black opal .in new country. The gems raised are worth about £6OO. GOLD REEF DISCOVERED. BRISBANE, Aug. 19.
