WELLINGTON, Aug. 15
./In tlie Legislative Council, the Law Practitioners, Amendment Bill, New Zealand University Amendment Bi!.l, Judicature- Amendment Bill, Offenders Probation Amendment Bill, Prevention of Crime (Borstal Institutions Establishment) Amendment Bill, and Coroners Amendment Bill were received from the House.
The Amendment Bill was received from and accorded urgency and passed and the Council adjourned at 3.55 p.m., until Wednesday.
THE HOUSE
In the House of Representatives Air Barnard drew attention to a paragraph in the Napier “Daily lelegrapli” contained in a report of a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board in which a member of the Board. The Prime , Minister stated, charge amounted to a gross libel and on his motion, it was. decided to ask the Editor, and publisher of the newspaper and to make an explanation. ,
Bay of Islands Harbour Amendment Bill (Air Riishworth) was introduced and read a first time.
Defence, (temporary) j Amendment Bill was. read a second time, . ..put tbroucdi the remaining stages and pxssed. The Finance Bill was introduced by the Governor-General’s message and read a first time.
The House adjourned at 12.12 a.m till 2.39 p.m. on Alondav.
