: Miss Amy Johnson arrived at Croydon aerodrome shortly after nine this evening in the “City of Glasgow” piloted by Captain Yowell, from Vienna. The big machine battled against stilt winds and rainstorms throughout tho journey and was forced to refuel at Brussels, postponing the arrival for nearly three hours. Seven light planes met the “City of Glasgow” a mile from the shore and escorted it to Croydon aerodrome, where it was surrounded by thousands who waited patiently to welcome the intrepid aviatrix.

Thousands more lined the nine miles route to London.

if.,-On the Innding ground was n platform .on which gathered two hundred favoured persons, including Amy’s pnr'ents,. sisters, Molly . and Betty and many relatives. The great plane came down lightly and taxied slowly towards the platform. When the door of the fuselage was opened the slim figure of Miss ; Johnson, hatless, with brown hair sliming, stood therein. For a second she waited breathlessly, amazed by trie gigantic shout of welcome, and then leaped out, and ran to meet her motner who with her father and sisters were advancing and nearly smothered her with kisses.
