MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH

MELBOURNE, Aug. 1

Arthur Skerett, aged 48, was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of John Taylor, grocer, of Fitzroy, on. June 14th. A fellow prisoner told the Court that Skerett had confided he had killed Taylor. Skerett’fi defence was that his confession was a mere joke during, a mock trial, in the remand yard.

SHEARER S RESUMING. (Received this day at 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 2. The Graziers Association Secretary stated the shearing position had wonderfully improved. Sheds are resuming on the new terms.
