■ “That in the opinion, of this House, while recognising that reasonable provision should be made to balance t]ie Budget, Government taxation proposals are ill-designed and incquitanie. (I)—“That increased taxation in re-, gard to the Alain Highways will ncil only enormously . /-increase; --tbirr-snort; costs, and add further to the heavy burden carried" by all ratepayers, but the. suggested c-ounse is a breach of faith with local authorities and motorists,', .ridid: agreed' /to the "iiiroo.sitio’n of special taxation on condition that 110 -part of this taxation was to be available for.the general purposes of Consolidated Fund.
(2) —“That the Customs Amendments do not provide in a suitable manner for Empire preference, and will result in a substantial increase in the cost of living; also being spread over a wide range without discrimination, will not add to that economic development both in primary and secondary industries on which depends the ultimate solution of the unemployment problem. t . (3) —“That the present heavy burden of high costs for the primary producer, will be unnecessarily aggravated, wlr almost an entire lack of economy in the Government, proposals, together with heavy taxation will have a detrimental effect on production, this being imposed at . a period when every effort should be made to afford relief.” After Hon Ransom had replied to Mr Coates, the adjournment of the debate was moved by Mr H. E. Holland and the House rose, at 9.25 p.tn.
