AUCKLAND. July 30. The Auckland branch of the new Pest and Telegraph Officers Gut-id was lormed last evening at a meeting; stated to have been attended by 95 executive officers.
At the same time a large meeting held elsewhere convened by the Auckland section of the P. and T. Employees Association, passed a unanimous resolution disapproving of the guild and the Government and .affirming continued loyalty to the present organisation. At. the guild meeting all sections of the service 1 were represented especially district postmasters.

NAVY LEAGUE CONFERENCE. DUNEDIN, July 30.1 At the Navy League Conference it was decided to make representations to the head office in England to invite Lord Jellicoe to visit the Dominion on behalf of the League. The next Conference will Ire held in Christchurch. A remit was. carried that the Conference views with alarm the reduction in the defence vote and reaffirms its -belief in the principle that the Dominion should contribute /to a full, (share towards the cost of Imperial defence. ~
[NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE. AUCKLAND, July 30. Noel .Herbert, Wilkinson,, a bus driver, is on trial in the Supreme Court on a charge of negligent driving on the occasion of the tragic crossing smash near .Whangarei when six young lives were lost. Evidence was given that tlie driver should have had a continuous view of the train lor 25 plains; that the locomotive headlights were burning, ■ although there were unlighted trucks immediately behind it, and that accused was perfectly sober.
