SHIPPING ARRIVES LATE

The Marine Department has received advice from the master of the Nelson ferry steamer, Matangi, stating that on last night’s trip from Wellington, when four miles W.S.W. of Sinclair Head, a heavy sea washed away portion of the ship’s railing and ele\ r en oil drums were carried overboard, which are likely to be a danger to navigation. Both the Remuera froin Southampton and Tahiti from San Francisco have arrived, the Tahiti two days late at seven, and Remuera at 1 a.m., also 48 hours late. They met increasing heavy weather as they approached the New Zealand coast and the speed had to be reduced.
