At the Arahura /Saleyards on Mlondav a fine line of fat Hereford bullocks was sold on behalf of Mr W. F, Diedricb, of Kokatahi, The beasts •were in splendid order and there was spirited competition for them. Three of the bullocks were slaughtered at the abattoirs to-day and formed the; subject of much favorable comment, there being considerable interest shown in their weight. The three slaughtered are estimated to weigh from 1000 to 1200 pounds each, and, there is reported to be some wagering on the actual dead weight.

On Monday afternoon in St. Andrew’s Hall, Miss Stops, organiser of the New Zealand Women’s Institute, gave a very interesting display, and helpful discourse on developing Homemaking and Co-operation and Good Citizenship, Many useful articles shown were made from waste materials, besides which were beautiful arts npd crafts, such as flower scenes embroidered in coloured silks and hand-made lace, raffia work etc, It was decided that a Women’s Institute be formed in Hokitika and that the meetings take place on the first. Tuesday of every month. The following committee was then elected: President, Mrs Hopkins; vice-president, Mis Parkhill; treasurer. Miss A. Duff; secretary, Miss J. Davidson; committee, Mrs Perry, Mrs Michel, Mrs Thompson, .Mrs Cnliari. The first social gathering takes place in St. Andrew’s Hall on Tuesday, Aug. oth. at 7.30 p.m. All ladies desirous of joining the Women’s Institute are heartily welcome. Members’ fee 2s per year.
