TIED TO CONTRACT. AUSTR ALLAN GOVERNMENT. (Australian Press Association.) CANBERRA, July 19. When investigating Federal Government contracts and subsidies with a view of finding possible* avenues towards reducing expenditure, the authorities have discovered that the subsidy - being- paid on the East-West air mail service is £39,000 per annum. This, however, cannot be cut, .because this company has got a con-, tract which does not expire till 1934. The Government finds that the aerial service has affected the trans-Contin-ental railway to a very serious extent. PAPER, prices; (Received this dav at 9.40 n.m ) SYDNEY, July 21. The Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Guardian, and Telegraph Pictorial, individually announce that from August 4th the price of the papers will be increased to one penny halfpenny.
