WELLINGTON MAN’S FIND

(.By Telegraph—Per Press Association

WELLINGTON, July 9

Mr A. D. Beddie, of Petone, who for somo years has been successfully studying hybridism, so far as it concerns native trees and shrubs near Wellington, has made an important discovery. It is that Pokaka (not a very common tree hereabouts) and Hinau cross, and they produce a remarkable race of trees, which has hitherto been unknown.

Dr Jj. Cockayne, C.M.G., F.R.S., fully concurs in Mr Beddie’s supposition, and he proposes to publish an illustrated account of the group in an overseas journal devoted to genetics. The group is to he called “X Elaioearpus Beddiamis.”
