PARLIAMENT
THE COUNCIL

WELLINGTON, June 27. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m.
Hon Masters was sworn in and took iiis seat at Deputy Leader of the Council.
I lie Leader ,Sir T. Sidey, proposed motions appreciative of the services rendered to the country by the late Sir Thomas Mackenzie, Hon H. L. alicTiel and Sir .John lundlav.
Alter other members had paid tribute to the deceased members, the motion was adopted and the Council adjourned at 3.1.5 p.m. until 10 a.in. next day.
THE HOUSE
The House of Representatives met at 2.30 p.m. The following bills were introduced and read a first time:—Masterton Trust Lands Amendment Bill (Mr Sykes).
Rating Amendment Bill (Mr Mason). Waiapu County Council Empowering Bill (Mr William*). Coroners’ Amendment Bill (Mr McMillan). ' New Zealand Institute of Architects Amendment Bill (Mr Wright),
Local Elections and Polls Amendment Bill (Mr Mason), Magistrate’s Court Amendment Bill (Mr Mason), City of Christchurch Sinking Fund Commissioners Empowering Bill (Mr Sullivan),
A motion was passed recording appreciation of the services to. New Zealand and expressing sympathy with the relatives of the following deceased legislators : —Sir Thomas MacKenzie (a former Prime Minister and High Commissioner), Sir John Findlay (a former member of the Cabinet and Leader of the Legislative Council), Hon. H. L. Michel (member of the Legislative council) and J. G. Harkness (a former member for Nelson). The House adjourned at 4.5 p.m. till 7.30 p.m. as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased legislators.
'.Pile House resumed at 7.30 p.m. Messrs Munns and Healy nominated Mr Bodkin as Chairman of Committees.
Messrs Kyle and Harris nominated Mr McPherson for the office. The Prime Minister indicated that he would treat the second nomination as a motion of no-confidence, whereupon McPherson asked that his noni-: illation be withdrawn.
! Mr Kyle 1 adopted this course and Air Bodkin was elected.
The House of Representatives put through all stages and passed the Imprest Supply Bill, providing for appropriations amounting to £327,500., The problem of unemployment was debated at length during the passage of this bill.
The LJcal Bodies Empowering (Rolled of Unemployment) Extension Bid, was introduced by Governor-General's Message and put through all stages and passed. The House rose at 3.10 a.m. till 2.30 on Tuesday.
