LAND BALLOT

IN HAWKES BAY

NAPIER. June 25

There were 56 applications in all, from 10 individuals, tor six sections ; n the Awamate Estate, which recently wuis acquired by the Government for closer settlement in the Wairoa district. The land comprises 670 acres. It was formerly the property of Mr J. S. Jessep, and is lying on on the right bank of the Wairoa river, six or seven miles from the town, by a good metal road, and it is a navigable river. The land consists of fairly good quality river flats, with a pumice and clay subsoil, and it should make, good dairy farms. The ballot was conducted at Wairoa to-day ny Mr ,T. D. Thomson, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Napier, before the members of the Land Board.
