DOMINION ITEMS.

HAWERA BURGLAR

(By Telegraph—Press Association).

HAWERA, June 25.

Three business premises and the Hawera railway station were (burglariously entered some time between 12 o’clock last evening and the early hours of this morning, but the thief (it is believed to be the work of one man) obtained only a coat and a few groceries. Access to the railway booking office was gained by prising up a window. Drawers were burst open, and a till was found lying oil the floor, but there was nothing of value to be taken, the cash being locked in the safe.

With the nightwatchman in the next room, the nocturnal visitor had a narrow escape from capture when lie entered the office of Byrne's timber mill through a side window at 1.39 a.m. Fortunately for himself he left the window open, and when disturbed by the watchman, he dived through it into a vacant section, before the watchman could get round to the door leading into the oiuee. Other premises entered without cash results were the Farmers’ Co-op. Produce Store, and Hodder and Tolley's Office.
