GENERAL CABLES

BERLIN POLICE CAR

“ARMED” WITH WATER

(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright V

BERLIN, June 24

The Prussian police arc experimenting with a mobile tank, armed with nothing but water. It resembles an armoured car, and it is protected by bullet proof plates. There is a gun in the turret which discharges a fierce stream of water for a distance of fifty yards, thus damping the ardour of hostile crowds.

As disorders must be suppressed, it is better that water should flow in the streets than that there should be bloodshed.

ENORMOUS CAPITAL

QUESTION OF EXPLOITATION

LONDON, June 25

The total capital of the provision firms in the amalgamation is £12,750,000.

The “Financial News,” commenting on the Provision Combine, points out that large organisations, such as Sainsburys, and John Quality, Limited, which are controlled by Selfridges, remain independent, so that there is little fear that the combine will use its position to' profit at the public’s exipense.
