SYDNEY, June 9,

The Australian Jockey Club’s winter meeting opened at Hand wick to-day, when the King’s Birthday holiday was observed. There was a large attendance.

A. J.C. Hurdles :—Grosvenor 10.6 (Carter) 1; Songift 10.0 (Giles) 2; Paul T. 10.1 (Cutter) 3. Twelve started. The leaders for the first mile were Anoi-ient, Pericjes, Songift, and Kinross, with Grosvenor at the' head of the others. Entering > the straight Songift had two lengths of a lead from Doctor Grace, Kinrosis, and Grosvenor. In the run home, Songift hit the last jump and lost ground. Grosvenor won by two lengths and a half with Paul T four lengths away third and Doctor Grace fourth. Then came Perides, Home Made and King Elysian with Anorient second iast. The time was 4.19£, which is a Randwick record. First Steeplechase:— Honest Light 9.2. (Conaghan) 1 ; Samphire 9.6 (Callum) 2; Burra form 11.5 (Cutter) 3 Five started. Won by twelve lengths ; and two lengths away. Time 4.34)

MELBOURNE, June 0. At the Victorian Racing Club’s King's birthday meeting, the Marlborough Hurdles in which Grand National candidates were engaged resulted:—Tirade 9.9. (Keally) 1; Chunree 10.6, (Ryan) 2; (Olina) 1; (Knevitt) 3. Ten started. Won by three lengths; third five lengths 'away. Time 4.295. Birthday Handicap.—Ocean Bound 6.11 (Breasley) 1; Sir Roy 8.0 (Bastian ) 2; Tnpetto 7.11 (Daniels) 3. Eleven started. Won by three-quar-ters of a length : third half a length away. Time 2.305.

ADELAIDE CLP

ADELAIDE, June 9. The Adelaide Cup resulted:—Al‘legatee 7.2, (Medhurst) 1 ; Mary ;2, (Slattery) 2; Kidaides 9.0 (Walker) 3. Eleven started. Won by two and ahalf lengths. Time 3.3.
