N.Z. STATE AID

ASKED FOR. AIRWAY COMPANY

(Bv Telegraph—Press Association)

WELLINGTON, June 5

A proposal that the Government should grant a subsidy to permit the establishment of the first commercial airways undertaking m New Zealand was recently placed before- the Minister of Defence (Hon Mr Cobbe) by a deputation of well known and influential business men representing the four main centres of the Dominion. The Minister has now replied by letter that, owing to the financial stringency, the Government is unable to meet the request, but the promoters of the venture hope that by bringing the matter further before the notice of the Government, they will obtain the desired assistance.
