THE COAL BILL
LONDON, May 15.
When the House of Lords was in committee on the Coal Bill Lord Mclchott moved the seven and a half hours day should operate for four years 'instead lOf -the arrangement lapsing in July, 1031. This was rejected by So to 65, but Lord Gainsford’s amendment was carried by 123 to 16 enabling agreements to be made for working ninety hours a fortnight instead of seven and a half dail.> • The committee stage was concluded.
BOASTFUL SONGS. LONDON, May 15
The Mayor of Arrogate stands firm on “Rule Britannia,” likewise today lie strenuously objected to “Hearts of Oak.” The celebration committee decided to omit both songs substituting at the instance of die Mayor, “Onward Christian Soldiers.” Interviewed the Mayor said boastful British war songs were contrary to the spirit of Locarno, the League of Nations, and the Naval Conference.

Uhe “Daily Express” publishes a remarkable story from Capetown concerning an airman’s story, which if trap, may explain \thc mysteiy ,of the lost AVaratah. He says two miles off Peddic, near Port East London a great ledge of rock run? out under the sea, on which lies a wrecked ship. It is plainly visible on calm days wlien the sunlight strikes the water at a certain angle.
