CHEQUE FRAUDS

Described by his counsel as a man whose credentials were as high as those of any other accountant m the Dominion, Bernard Sidney Spencer, aged 31 years, an accountant, come before the Police Court for sentence on, three charges of obtaining sums of £j2,7, Bs, £4B Is lid, and £25 i9s 'lod by cheque from a- city firm by falsely representing that he had paid these sums for income tax. Magistrate Hunt said that the. Probation Officer had recommended probation: “With his arm as it is, the man is practically a cripple,” said Mr Hunt. “He has new lost his professional status and I think the ends of justice will 'be met if I place him on probation for two years, and order him to make restitution of £97 within two months.”
