DIRECT COMMUNICATION

WELLINGTON, May 10.

The Postmaster-General (Sir J. G. Ward) announces the inauguration, as from Monday, the 12th. inst. of direct radio-telegraph service Between New Zealand and Rarotonga (Cook Islands). The telegraph traffic at present is transmitted by Apia and direct working will permit of charges for . telegrams being reduced by the amount incurred for retransmission at Apia. In making the announcement the Postmaster General indicates the neW service is in pursuance of the- policy of the Government to extend and; develop radio communication between ! New 'Zealand ap'd the outlying Islands and Dependencies. ,
