CRICKET.
ENGLISH TOUR OF 1931
ADVICE TO NEW ZEALAND
AUCKLAND, May 7
“The New Zealand cricketers in 1931 should not be troubled greatly by English wickets,”' declared Warwick Armstrong today, “as it is generally considered that wickets in the Dominion are very much the same as those in England, especially in the South Island. One essential would be a left-handed bowler. It will be necessary to have a couple of really good spin bowlers, as they invariably do well againsl Home sides.
“Left-handed batsmen are always of considerable value on an English tour, and the selectors would do well to include one or two in the team. Good fielding is an absolute necessity. The players should be young with a leavening of experienced men.” As lie had been out of touch with New Zealand cricket for several years and knew little about our players, Mi Armstrong could not give an opinion as to how a Dominion team is likely to fare against the Englishmen.
