The byp-oicction for the Parnell seat, rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr IP. R. Jenkins, was held to-day, and resulted in the election of the Reform candidate, Mr Endean. The day was fine and there were brisk scenes at the polling booths. Jn all there were twenty-five returns. ’The number of voters was 10*198. The roll for the bye-election closed with 14,086 names on it. * k
W. P. Endean (Reform) ... 4607 W. H. Dane Id (United) ... 3122 T. Bloodworth (Labour) ... 2065 Majority for Endean ... ... 1485 There are 256 absent votes, 143 postal and three seamen’s votes yet to count.
