SUFFER TESTS
MOTOR DRIVERS’ LICENSES
REGISTRATION TIME
With the growth of motor traffic, particularly in the main centres, there is a tendency in the direction of a further stiffening of the tests which must lie passed by applicants for drivers’ licenses, and there is every reason to believe that in the near future a uniform standard test will be applied throughout the Dominion. There was ai conference recently of representatives of all bodies and organisations concerned in' motor traffic. This nxeqfing;.was held;till;camera, but it is stated that the mplor regulations were reviewed and;'that - The ibiufwnie ,\y ill j probably, Jbe : that, new regulation?* will lie framed embodying;more >or' less Standard tests to be uniform through-" put vie . Failure ( to do so would, of course mean disqualification. The sight test is a- strict one, and includes reading of colours, but the number of colour-blind applicants is very small indeed. For public service drivers; motor buses and-taxicabs, only classification of “good” in all tests is considered as qualification. Should a candidate fail at the first test, he or she may apply again after further practise, but the second test is more strictly applied. ,In the event of any disability, such as colour blindness, the application is referred to the By-laws Committee. The license' issued by ~the Auckland CitypCouncil is-rather an improvement on The brie issued in Wellington, as on the back pages are printed lustrations of signals to be used by drivers of motor vehicles when stopping, turning, grossing, etc. It is thought that this would be a useful provision on the * Wellington license. . • ’ ”
